Valinomycin (Molecule of the Month for June 2006)
Valinomycin is an antibiotic. Valinomycin is a potassium selective ionophore such that it increases the transport of potassium across cell membranes and thereby causes damage to bacteria cells.
Valinomycin is obtained from the cells of several Streptomyces strains
