Premarin contains estrogen, a female sex hormone necessary for many processes in the body. It is used to treat symptoms of menopause and in postmenopausal women. Premarin treats deficiency in ovary function (including underdevelopment of female sexual characteristics and some types of infertility), degeneration of the vagina and also as an anticancer drug for urethra and prostate cancer and some types of breast cancer in men. In addition, conjugated estrogens are used to prevent osteoporosis. Estrogen is a female sex hormone necessary for many processes in the body.
