Simvastatin (ZOCOR) when used with diet changes such as the restriction of cholesterol and fat intake, it reduces the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood. Atherosclerosis, the accumulation of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries, decreases blood flow and, therefore, the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. Simvastatin by lowering the blood level of cholesterol and fats helps to prevent heart disease, chest pain (angina), strokes, and heart attacks.
